RULES + DESIGN NOTES
Word Territory
Change the word. Take the space.
Word Territory is Hadtoo's four-player word-war game. A shared map turns legal word transformations into territory, letting players claim, extend, steal, and connect spaces over eight rounds.
HOW THE GAME WORKS
Reveal the letter
Each round introduces one letter and a set of legal transformations on the shared board.
Choose a target
Players secretly choose which word to transform. Neutral words can be claimed, owned words can be extended, and rival words can be stolen.
Resolve collisions
When multiple players want the same space, connected territory around the target matters. The map therefore changes not just what you own, but how strong your next contest may be.
Build chains
Connected groups can trigger frontier chain claims, rewarding players who shape a network instead of collecting isolated tiles. Most territory after round eight wins.
WHAT HADTOO CREATED FOR THIS TITLE
Specific systems, not a claim over the whole genre.
- The shared 5×5 word-territory board and the way legal word transformations change ownership.
- Connection-based priority for contested transformations and frontier chain rewards.
- The simultaneous target selection, territory-stealing flow, responsive board presentation, and software implementation.
ORIGINALITY BOUNDARY
What we mean when we call it original.
Word games and territory-control games have long histories. Hadtoo does not claim those categories. The original work is the particular transformation rules, shared-map ownership system, collision priority, chain rewards, interface, and implementation used by Word Territory.
